Members of the ABUAD Legal Community gathered last month at the National Art Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, for the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Legal Practice Conference, a four-day event that brought together some of Nigeria’s most distinguished legal minds. For the ABUAD contingent, it was more than a professional conference. It was a reunion, a reaffirmation, and a reminder of just how wide the university’s legal network truly reaches.

A Conference Built for the Future of the Bar
The NBA Section on Legal Practice Conference is one of the most significant gatherings on the Nigerian legal calendar and the 2026 edition was no exception. Chaired by Madam Folashade Alli SAN, who holds the distinction of also serving as the Matron and a Member of the Board of Trustees of the ABUAD Alumni Association, the conference created a platform for honest reflection on the state of the bar and a forward-looking discussion on where legal practice in Nigeria is heading.
“The conference provided an opportunity to reflect on the progress of the Bar, uphold its integrity, and position legal practitioners for both local and international opportunities.”
The theme “Emerging Trends, Shaping Legal Practice in Nigeria and Beyond” set a purposeful tone across the four days. Sessions addressed the evolving demands placed on practitioners, the standards expected of the bar, and the pathways available to Nigerian lawyers seeking to compete on a global stage.
The ABUAD Presence
The ABUAD delegation at the conference was a cross-generational one, a fitting reflection of the university’s growing and diverse legal community. Among those in attendance:
– Toluwani Alabi Esq. – Legal Adviser of the ABUAD Alumni Association
– Ms. Atilola – Former President, Law Students’ Society (LSS)
– Distinguished alumni and members of the ABUAD Legal Community
– Current ABUAD law students, including the sitting LSS President
– The group was ably supported by Professor Sesan Fabamise
The attendance of both alumni and current students at the same table speaks to one of the ABUAD community’s quiet strengths: its ability to bridge generations within the legal profession. For current students, the chance to sit alongside practising lawyers and alumni in a space as prestigious as a national NBA conference is precisely the kind of exposure that shapes careers.
More Than a Conference – A Reconnection
Beyond the formal sessions, the conference served as an organic reunion for the ABUAD legal family. Alumni ran into one another in corridors, shared tables at sessions, and exchanged notes on the evolving practice landscape. It was, in the words of those who attended, “a unique experience to reconnect and share ideas.”
These informal moments where a current LSS President can speak candidly with a practising lawyer who once held the same title are often where the most lasting professional relationships are forged. The ABUAD Alumni Association’s presence at events like this underscores its commitment to keeping the network active and meaningful, not just on paper.
